NEW ARTICLE: Good News and Good Things Coming Soon!

Hi friends!  I am excited to begin blogging again after taking a break from it. Going through a bad and unwanted haircut honestly brought my spirits down, about my natural hair blogging, and I just wanted to get my hair fixed before sharing again. So what’s been up?! Well, I am scheduled to have my first DEVACUT this Friday April 15th, and I am praying for this trimming to bring my curls back to life, with a good shape, and make my hair wearable again. It’s been almost 2 1/2 months since the bad haircut so when I discovered a DevaCut certified stylist in the Nashville, TN area I had to make the call. Just a few more days to wait so stay tuned! (“My First DevaCut” will be posted by Saturday April 16th). For those that are not familiar, the DevaCut is essentially a specialized haircut for curly hair textures. So knowing that stylists are being trained and educated on how to take their time, and really do a detailed trim and shape, on my …

NEW ARTICLE: Simple Protective Styles in The Winter

By Jackie M.  In this article, I am highlighting a type of style that is very near and dear to my heart… two-strand twists! To give a short background about my hair, it has taken 7 years to achieve the length I have today. I actually have a story to share regarding my BIG CHOP experience, and my journey to healthier hair, but that will be posted in February.  Basically my twists have gone from baby length to the luscious full length they are today. For now let me tell you the many reasons why I love two-strand twists, and why it is my go-to style for protecting my hair in the winter.❄️  NOTE: The majority of these pics were styles done by a professional hairstylist, not by me.       Reason #1 It’s an Easy Style to Install Two-strand twists are by far one of the easiest styles to achieve on my 4a/4b hair type. Just like the name, all it takes is gathering two strands of your hair and twisting it. When I was introduced to …

Monday Morning Love: Beautifully Made

By Jackie M. Every Monday morning, I will share a quick word of encouragement for your week ahead. Today I want you to look at yourself as beautiful from the inside out because you are beautifully made! Many women struggle with insecurities related to their appearance, and I am no exception. Don’t believe the hype, that’s flooded on television screens and magazine covers, of what a “beautiful women” should look like, because most of those images are retouched and completely edited from the original. It’s ok to be different because God made you the way you are. Your skin, hair, and body…everything was delicately fashioned by the hands of God and it should be embraced as such… delicately. Let’s treat our bodies with care, and of course our skin and hair are included. I’m very much a healthy hair advocate, so every week I will share more tips with you about my natural hair journey! Stay beautiful ladies. CW

DIY Curlformers Set on Natural Hair

By Jackie M. Hey ladies! This picture tutorial is my first attempt at installing Curlformers® on my 4a/4b curlies. I actually did this style for New Year’s Eve (NYE), earlier this month, and it came out cute! I did a shampoo and deep condition set, and applied the spiral rod set to my damp hair, after work, to be ready for the NYE festivities. So, here is how I achieved soft effortless curls, using Curlformers®. To shampoo: I used Shea Moisture® Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen Grow & Restore Shampoo. This product has incredible slip and moisturizing properties to it. I read excellent reviews on NaturallyCurly.com  as it was recommended as the top recommended shampoo for Type 4 curlies.  For those that are not familiar with the helpful hair typing resource check out this link Naturally Curly: Hair Types for more info. Using the shampoo made it very easy for me to detangle my hair while wet.  To detangle and deep condition: Speaking of detangling, I want to emphasize that I choose to always detangle my hair while it is wet or damp to …
