Winter Hair Repair using the L.O.C Method

By Jackie M. Hey y’all! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Holidays are right around the corner, and with holidays comes bitter cold weather. So, my curls are in desperate need of some TLC. I decided to try the L.O.C. Method which stands for Leave-In/Oil/Cream in the order that it should be applied to your hair. Recently I tried using an Oyin Handmade product for the first time, and had pretty good results, so I took another trip to Sally Beauty to find an oil and cream to add to the leave-in. I’m slowly turning into a product junkie! Oh dear… seems like it anyways.  These were my products of choice for my winter hair repair regimen: 1. LEAVE-INOyin Handmade Juices & Berries Nourishing Herbal Leave-In Hair Tonic  2. OILSunny Isle Extra Dark Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) 3. CREAM Oyin Handmade Hair Dew Daily Hair Quenching Lotion  I also had to purchase a deep conditioning cap. This is a great brand below:  My Curl Health History: Before I applied my products, I was …

Product Review: Oyin Handmade Juices&Berries Nourishing Herbal Leave-In Hair Tonic

By Jackie M.  Curly girls relate with me.  In search of a moisturizing product… in search of slip… in need of hydration, in need of holding power! Lol how many of us can relate?  It’s almost winter time, so that means more breakage, more dryness, more starvation amongst the type 4 curly heads across the world. Can we collectively feel each other’s pain today and all season, *moment of silence, crickets and such*…because this is when DIY natural hair care gets tough. I’m currently in a stage of dry hair, and decided to look for something new to hydrate my hair. Something that I personally haven’t tried before. So I went to Sally Beauty and picked up a highly raved about Oyin Handmade product.  This review is about my experience using Oyin Handmade Juices & Berries Nourishing Herbal Leave-In Hair Tonic!  I purchased this product last night for about $14 from my nearby Sally Beauty Supply. Before I went to pick this up, I read reviews on Amazon.com, and NaturallyCurly.com looking for words like, “smells …

Product Review: LottaBody Wrap Me Foaming Mousse

Hi ladies!  I recently purchased a new product on Amazon for less than $9, after reading and seeing pic tutorials of great results for perm Rod sets, roller sets, etc. I decided to try a simple flat twist set with perm rods on the ends only. Here are my thoughts on using LottaBody Wrap Me Foaming Mousse for the first time!  Everyone knows that I love wearing a curly twistout, and I also love to keep my curls moisturized as much as I can. Well, when searching for a better product to help give my curls a nice hold, pretty shine, and defining texture, I saw reviews on this foaming mousse. So I tried it myself and I can say I love it!  The LottaBody Wrap Me Foaming Mousse, is said to work on all hair types, and I know my hair typically responds well to mousse products when setting a rod set, so I tried it. I like the light coconut scent it has, and the foam has kind of a cobalt blue tint to it, …

UPDATE: On Good News and My Cancelled DevaCut

Hey ladies!  I have to apologize for leaving y’all in the dark about my DevaCut that did not end up happening. Unfortunately, my original appointment, to have my first DevaCut was cancelled on me. Note it was not by choice, but the stylist had a “last minute” opportunity to go to Amsterdam (of all places) with her salon team. So part of me couldn’t get too upset because she doesn’t schedule her patients, that is the jobs of the people at the front desk, and I am not trying to be difficult. So I just took that as a sign that I need to wait longer before going through with it, and let my hair grow out some more.  In lieu of that cancellation, I decided I am getting a protective style to leave my hair alone for at least a month and a half before letting another stylist touch it. Still recovering from my bad unwanted haircut experience, I just need a change up and a break. My decision is to get som fresh …

NEW ARTICLE: Good News and Good Things Coming Soon!

Hi friends!  I am excited to begin blogging again after taking a break from it. Going through a bad and unwanted haircut honestly brought my spirits down, about my natural hair blogging, and I just wanted to get my hair fixed before sharing again. So what’s been up?! Well, I am scheduled to have my first DEVACUT this Friday April 15th, and I am praying for this trimming to bring my curls back to life, with a good shape, and make my hair wearable again. It’s been almost 2 1/2 months since the bad haircut so when I discovered a DevaCut certified stylist in the Nashville, TN area I had to make the call. Just a few more days to wait so stay tuned! (“My First DevaCut” will be posted by Saturday April 16th). For those that are not familiar, the DevaCut is essentially a specialized haircut for curly hair textures. So knowing that stylists are being trained and educated on how to take their time, and really do a detailed trim and shape, on my …

UPDATE: Length Retention Using Two Strand Twists

Hi ladies, I have to apologize for being absent the past month or so. My unwanted hair chop experience really caught me off guard and I honestly lost a little motivation in doing this natural hair blogging thing. But I am still taking good care of my shorter curls.  I estimate that my hair is about 5 inches shorter than before the bad haircut, and I have to work with it to get it back to the length I was falling in love with. My hair was draping past my shoulders when stretched before , so I’m just trying to style it the way I like, and deal since my curls don’t hang nearly that low.  Today I did a quick shampoo, deep condition, and set using Shea Moisture and Deva Curl products. I won’t go into detail this time. I just want to share my shorter twists for now, and get back in the groove of blogging.  My plan is to keep two strand twists in my hair most of the time, to protect …
